The Paintings That Found Their Homes: Collector Stories from Art by Affie

Every painting I make eventually finds its home. Here are some of those stories.

Eleni and LOVE

Eleni bought LOVE and sent me a message that I have thought about many times since. She said it takes her to Greece every time she looks at it. Olive groves and the colour of the sea at a particular hour. She called it a peaceful pause. A little daily magic that makes the space feel more alive and more meaningful.

Lisa and PEACOCK

Lisa had been looking at PEACOCK for a while before she bought it. Going back to the same page, the same image, over days or weeks. She said: if you keep returning to it, jump right in and buy it. It will bring you delight and you will be glad you own it. She also said it makes her heart sing every time she looks at it. The going back is not indecision. It is recognition. You can read more about this in my post on how to choose wall art you won't get bored of.

Christina and CREST

Christina did not just buy CREST. She built a room around it. She said: we love the calmness CREST brings into our space. She let the painting lead rather than treating it as a finishing touch. This is the relationship with art I hope for most. For more on making a room feel genuinely yours rather than a show home, read my post on how to make a room feel like yours.

Sarah J and the texture that keeps revealing itself

Sarah J is a home decorator. She said: there is so much depth and texture to it, and it can be interpreted in so many ways depending on the person who chooses it. This is the quality of alcohol ink art that I find most valuable. The painting does not become familiar in the way that static things become invisible. It keeps being worth looking at. You can read more about why in my post on the difference between art that decorates and art that holds you.

Anna and the photographs that do not do it justice

Anna said: the detail is stunning, photos just do not do it justice. She is right and I have made my peace with it. The painting in the room is always better. Always more than the photograph.

What all these stories have in common

Every collector describes the same thing beneath the specific detail. A shift in the feeling of the space. A room that looks the same and feels different. The daily small good thing. If you are curious what that feeling might be for your own home, read my post on why your home might feel flat even though it looks lovely. And download my free guide to find out where to start.
